Meet the Breeder
I’m a Christian, wife, mom, and business owner. After high school, I earned an Associate’s Degree in Allied Health from Carl Albert State College and later attended nursing school through Eastern Oklahoma State College. I’ve been married to my husband, Nicholas, since 2009. Together, we have five wonderful daughters: MaKynlie, Blaklie, Payzlie, Anzlie, and Jenslie. We live on a beautiful 125-acre farm at the foothills of the Kiamichi and Ouachita Mountains in Southeast Oklahoma, where we raise beef cattle and several horses. In my free time, I enjoy running barrels and spending quality time with my family when I’m not busy taking the kids to their softball or basketball games.
About Dachshunds
The Origin of Dachshunds
Dachshunds originated in Germany during the late 17th century and were selectively bred by hunters to track and hunt small animals such as badgers. Their long noses give them an extraordinary sense of smell, making them excellent hunters. Over time, these dogs became beloved companions, known for their playful and loyal nature. Despite their small size, they exhibit remarkable determination and strength, characteristics that have made them a favorite among dog enthusiasts worldwide.
Dachshund Appearance and Traits
Dachshunds are known for their unique, low-to-the-ground bodies and robust muscles. They come in two sizes, miniature and standard, and three different coat types: long, short, and wire-haired. Their coats can feature a variety of colors, such as black and tan, chocolate, red, and dapple. Dachshunds are also characterized by their expressive eyes, which come in colors ranging from amber to blue. Their lively, affectionate personalities and protective instincts make them wonderful family pets and loyal companions.
Dachshund Temperament and Personality
Dachshunds are known for their lively, clever, and courageous personalities. They are affectionate companions who love being the center of attention and are incredibly loyal to their families. Despite their small stature, they possess a big-dog attitude, often acting as protectors of their homes. Dachshunds are well-suited for indoor living and thrive in both small yards and apartments, making them perfect for families who value companionship. Their playful yet protective nature ensures they form strong bonds with their owners.
Health and Care for Dachshunds
While generally a healthy breed, Dachshunds are prone to certain health issues, including spinal injuries and obesity if not properly cared for. Regular exercise, a well-balanced diet, and routine veterinary check-ups are essential to maintaining their health. Grooming needs vary by coat type, with longhaired and wirehaired Dachshunds requiring more attention. Dachshunds are also susceptible to specific conditions like intervertebral disc disease and patellar luxation, so it’s important to monitor their health closely to ensure a long, active life.
